It is with heavy hearts the family announces the peaceful passing of Maria on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Juravinski Hospital at the age of 85. Beloved wife of Rocco for 63 years. Loved mother of Nick (Brigitte), Antoinette (Dennis) and Vito. Cherished nonna of Sarah (Jacob), Ashley, Jessica, Stephanie-Jade (Mitch), Nicole, Aaron, Cassandra and Marissa. Dear sister of Chiara (the late Nicola), Antonio (Nina), Giuseppe (Catherine), Alfonso (Anna), Caterina (Nicola), Pasquale (Doreen) and Salvatore (Rose). Predeceased by her parents Vito and Maria Antonia Sgro, sisters Vittoria ( the late Salvatore), Rosina (the late Paulo), brother-in-law Francesco ( survived by Antonietta), sister-in-law Immaculata, parents-in-law Nicola and Antionette Battaglia. Missed also by many nieces, nephews, and neighbours in Canada and Italy. Maria's passions were her grandchildren, her children, her family, baking and always feeding everyone. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, 304 Highway #8, Stoney Creek on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Entombment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery.
