Condolence: Not a day goes by that I don't think of you Helen. I know I am making you proud by making my way through life and by following my passion. I know that you are supporting me giving me your best advice from the big theatre in the sky. I know that you will always be supporting me no matter how badly I mess up. You will be by my side, supporting me.

Condolence: Pretty well not a day goes by when Helen is not thought of. Your spirit was at every performance at Sears ( Natinal theatre drama fest) and lives through all the experiences and people you inspired with your passion. Regrettably I was not at the Central Auditorium dedication but I know that your legacy is not only an event or a single dedication, but in all of us that live day to day with you in our hearts. I know your strong and loving family will be together this day sharing memories. Thinking of you all.

Condolence From: Lesley Thurgood Anderson
Condolence: Sad to hear of the passing of Mrs. Zdriluk. Whenever I reminisce about high school, she was a big part of my life there and I admired her dedication to the musicals and kids in the theatre. She didn't take any crap either and now that I've had 3 kids and I'm a grandmother, I can really appreciate all that she did for us at BCHS! I still remember the "Hot Box" tap dance routines and all of her direction to make it as perfect as possible so that we could all be proud! I will miss her. My condolences to her family and friends.

Condolence: Helen you will be dearly missed. You were such an amazing champion for children and the performing arts. Your impact will be felt for years to come as students will remember you as "that special teacher" who opened the door to the wonders of the theatre. As for me, your candid outlook and wonderful advice will be dearly missed. I will work diligently to ensure your last efforts partnering your students at Brock U with BPAC will have an ongoing and lasting legacy for students and teachers in the region. My sincere condolences are extended to your dear family.

Condolence: We all have one, more if we're lucky. At least in the arts it's almost always this way. A friend, a mother, a father, or perhaps a teacher. Someone who put you on the path. Someone who you can clearly say, without, you would not be who you are today. Helen did this tirelessly, for so many. I can't begin to imagine how many lives she touched, but I do know how she touched mine. I feel like a child today, clumsily trying to articulate what's in my heart. So, without much ado, I just want to say thank you. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for everything. Rest in peace Mrs Z. You will be forever missed. Dear Gerry, Jen, Beth and Family. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, for sharing Helen with us all. She was a gift to this world, and will be forever missed.

Condolence From: Jane Homan
Condolence: As so many have said, Helen has touched so many people - directly and also far reaching. Sometimes the "thank you's" do not always come when they should, but hopefully teachers and mentors know they have made a difference in a child's life, as the contributions alone that Helen made as part of the "it takes a village to raise a child" was so very important!! Because of our grandchildren and the work - or shall I say "Fun" they did with Helen (and Gerry) at Centre Stage, those experiences helped to broaden and enrich their lives! Heartfelt "Thank you" from grateful grandparents! We will miss you, as so may will - to Gerry - you and your family are a very special group and we are sending you our deepest condolences. from Jane Homan & Kevin Silver

Condolence From: Greg Mackin
Condolence: Helen was an undeniable force and a tireless motivator. She demanded and got our best, sometimes pulled from us kicking and screaming but for our ultimate reward of self realization. I still hear a laugh, a direction or a shout of encouragement from the back of the auditorium. My condolences to her family and a hope that through us and how we live and learn that voice will continue speaking to us.

Condolence From: Mike Rowe
Condolence: When I left school Mrs. Z gave me a framed collage; it contained pictures of all the shows I was in with the inscription “Great theatre is an image that burns in the mind”. When I think of her, the image in my mind is of a great teacher sitting about twenty rows up in the centre of the Central auditorium. She has been there for hours sacrificing all her free time, her entire life. She is trying to perfect that scene or song, inspiring a group of teenagers to want more and not settle for good or even great. I can honestly say I didn’t truly appreciate everything she did until I had children of my own and realized how hard it is to impassion. I have met many people with passion in my life but I can’t think of another who was able to share her passion with so many and have them strive so tirelessly to achieve it. To have a few hundred people sit in the dark with hair standing on end, pulse racing, on the edge of their seats in complete silence waiting for those in the light to release this pent up tension and experience an emotion only capable in this setting. I was one of fortunate ones to have know her and to have lived this, to know you are only as good as your last performance. I would say rest in peace but I’m pretty sure she is somewhere giving notes and finding time for one more run-through.

Condolence: Dear Gerry, Jen and Beth, I was your next door neighbour on Rubens Court and spent a good part of my childhood in and out of your home, vehicle and auditorium. I accompanied your girls on vacations and benefited from your tremendous generosity and spirit in so many ways. My love of theatre lives on, having just attended a show with my daughter and mom last week in Toronto. You so easily developed a passion in others as yours was contagious. I am sorry for your loss, it will impact on so many. I'm sorry I am not able to be with you today, I will keep you in my thoughts.

When you are a high school student, you hope to find a teacher who inspires you to be the best you can be. Helen was one of those teachers, who gave her students 100% and inspired you to do the same. Helen -I'm sure you are setting the stage as we speak, for all us to one day arrive at the big show! Zdriluk Family-I hope your happy memories provide you with some comfort. She truly was inspiring.

Condolence: Dear Gerry and family. I have wonderful memories of great times with Helen from when we were in class together at Delta and in the Band. Gerry, you would remember me as Joy Jones back in the day when I played tuba at the back of the class. I moved to New Brunswick in 1977 so lost touch with Helen. However, she was such a gentle kind person who has no doubt left a legacy of love and compassion. I have been thinking about Helen a lot since learning of her passing. I wish you all peace. This world is a better place because Helen walked through it.

Condolence From: Lisa (McGeorge) Haynes
Condolence: My deepest condolences to Helen's family. She has a special place in my heart. As a member of the pit band for several musical productions at BCHS, I watched Mrs. Z from the wings and I learned how she magically pieced everything together for her shows. I didn't know it then, but I was learning invaluable skills which I use every day in my own work as an Arts teacher. I am certain that without my experiences in Mrs. Z's shows, I would not have the confidence to create my own school shows. She taught me what is possible amongst a group of kids. She taught me strength, creativity, the importance of spontaneity, as well as what it means to be organized, prepared, and well-rehearsed. Without my memory of her and the passion she had to make things right and to follow through with her artistic vision, I know that I would not have the confidence to even attempt such an immense task. Thank-you, Mrs. Z for showing so many of us that every thought, every idea, every impulse in creative expression matters. Everyone's contribution is important. Thank-you for making us feel important and for providing so many opportunities to help us shine. You will always be remembered and cherished. Rest in peace, Mrs. Zdriluk.

Condolence: I was saddened to hear of Helen's passing. I have long admired her dedication and skill at building confidence and nurturing the talent of all the students who pass through her doors. The students learn to work as a team and to create an enjoyable show where every single one has a moment to shine to the best of their abilities. They build pride, a sense of community, friendship and confidence. I am so happy my daughter, Ella Jeffery has had the opportunity to be part of the Centre Stage Intermediate Musical Theatre class for the last five years. She has blossomed as a performer and as a person, and I am sure most of the other parents feel the same positive qualities have grown in their own children. What an amazing legacy to leave in this world. Thank you, Helen.

Condolence: I was very sad to hear that Helen is no longer with us. From when I started musical theatre at Centre Stage five years ago, to now, Helen had always been a mentor to me. She was fair, hard working, kind, and every year at Centre Stage was fun and enjoyable. Helen taught me everything I know about acting, and when people were asking for an actor to hire, Helen referred me which I am forever in gratitude for because she opened up a whole new door in my life. The shows that will happen in June are no longer just for us, everyone attending Centre Stage, they are for Helen. We have to keep a wonderful legacy going for a wonderful person. The wonderful memories I made with her shall always linger, for Centre Stage Theatre School is like a home to me.

Condolence From: Ron Dodson and Wendy McNaughton
Condolence: Like so many of our drama colleagues across the province, Wendy and I feel a hole in our hearts today with the news of Helen's passing. Helen was a woman with a quick wit and a keen intellect. She was easy to work with and earned the respect of everyone with whom she came into contact. Whether it was running a Sears Drama Festival, working with her "Brockies" or helping CODE, we knew that Helen was the person who would find a creative way to deal with an issue, all with a smile and a laugh. When we started to assemble the list of "must have" people to help with the World Festival of Children's Theatre, Helen was one of the first people on the list. Her experience with children made her a natural for the jury, and her creative mind made her participation in the symposium easy asks. Thank you, Helen, for all you did for Ontario's and the world's children. Ron and Wendy

Condolence From: The Hedley Family
Condolence: Our family is so sad to hear of Helen's passing. Thank you to Helen for opening the door for Keegan into the great world of theater. At age 5 he joined Centre Stage and at that moment, he sat us down and explained he no longer was a sports guy. He LOVES theater and acting and Helen was such a huge influence for him. Now at age 9, he has so much experience under his belt, and we really have Helen to thank for opening our eyes and mind to a world we were never familiar with. Gerry and family, we extend our sincere condolences during this difficult time.

Condolence: Today, we lost an incredible educator and friend. Helen Zdriluk. I cannot express how much this woman inspired me. She was more than just my teacher for Drama in Education and Applied Theatre, Children and Youth Theatre, and Alternative forms of Theatre - but she was a supportive role model. She always pushed us to think outside the box, push the boundaries of creativity, and to really thing about why and who we were creating for rather than the grade attached to it. She was sassy and to the point, she joked with us, and truly changed my life. She gave us so many opportunities to see how education and applied theatre can be used in the real world. I worked on projects that really changed how I viewed my own abilities as an educator and performer. Everything she taught had such meaning, always getting to the point whether academic or personal. We all wanted to make her proud because we respected her and looked forward to the 5-10 hours we'd spend with her on Thursday's for our last 2 years of university. She showed us how much power we have and how much we matter. She gave us confidence. She showed us friendship in times of stress and loss. Because of her, I get to start teacher’s college next week and work towards my dream. I owe her so much, and I hope we made you proud, because you meant so much to all of us in DART. Helen, I'll miss you. Thank you for everything.
