Rita passed away peacefully at home in Hamilton surrounded by her family on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the age of 88. Born in Glasgow Scotland, Rita came to Canada in 1967. She worked in Reitmans before going to work at the Henderson General Hospital. Having lived in Burlington for about 25 years, Rita had recently relocated back to Hamilton to be closer to her Family. She was predeceased by her parents John and Jane Rodgers and by her sister Jean Anderson (David) in Orillia, Canada, and her brother William "Billy" (Ruth) in Ulverstone, Tasmania. Rita is survived by her her three children Rosslyn Devlin (Mike) in Glasgow, Scotland, Alison Danner (Wilf) in Hamilton and Kenneth Macalpine (Sarah) in Dundas. Grandmother to Michael (Kirsty) in Dumbarton, Scotland, Graeme (Catherine) Shawlands, Glasgow, Scotland, Megan currently living in Christchurch, New Zealand, Jennifer (Brad) in Hamilton and Andrew (Kim) also in Hamilton. 9 months ago she also became a great grandmother to Gavin (Jennifer and Brad). Rita was an Aunt, Great Aunt and Great-Great Aunt to many nieces and nephews in Canada, Scotland, Tasmania and Australia. And not forgetting her beloved friends. Rita also loved Dancing, Walking and losing herself in a good book. Cremation has taken place and a "Celebration of Life" will be held at Smith's Funeral Home, 485 Brant Street (one block north of City Hall), Burlington (905-632-3333) from 7-9 pm, on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 which all family and friends are welcome to attend. For those who wish, donations to the Juravinski Hospital or Cancer Clinic, Hamilton in memory of Rita would be appreciated by the family.
