Obituary for Fred Davis Bucknam

Fred Davis Bucknam
Bucknam, Fred

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Fred at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington, on Monday, April 3, 2017 at the age of 93. Beloved husband of the late Edna (2010). Loving father of Ross and his wife Suzanne, Karen and her husband Brian, and Penny and her husband Michael. Proud grandfather of Peter, Scott, Robert, James, Christopher, Taylor, Jeff (Lisa), Jamie (Meghan) and great-grandfather of Brayden, Emily, Benjamin and Alexander. Fred proudly served his country during WWII in the R.C.A.F. and retired with 43 years of service from Bell Canada. He was a great friend to his community, and was recognized as Burlington's Citizen of the Year in 1990. A long-time member of the Burlington Baptist Church, Fred always volunteered to help those in need. For many years he assisted The Salvation Army by heading their annual Christmas Food Drive. Fred looked forward to a regular round of golf, but a round at St. Andrew's Old Course by the sea in Scotland was a special highlight. Fred never turned down a chance to perform a square dance with his beloved wife Edna, a hobby that took them to England with their square dancing club. While back home Fred loved to putter in the garden creating wonderful vegetable and flower gardens. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street, (one block north of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Friday, from 3-5 & 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Burlington Baptist Church, 2225 New Street, Burlington, on Saturday April 8, 2017 at 11 am with reception to follow at the church. Interment at Burlington Memorial Gardens, Burlington will follow the reception. For those who wish, donations in memory of Fred to The Heart & Stroke Foundation or Parkinson Society would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
