Obituary for David Herbert Frost

David Frost of Grimsby, Ontario passed away suddenly after a long and happy life. David was the husband of Helen-Anne (nee McCabe) for 53 years and father of Grant (Michaelle) Frost of Brantford and Laura (John) Marucci of Grimsby. Proud grandfather of Joseph and Samantha Marucci and McCabe and Emmerson Frost. Dear brother of Stanley Frost of Welland and Paul Frost of Crystal Beach and the late Douglas Frost of Welland, Patricia Comhaire of Grimsby and Margaret Joyce Smith of Fonthill. Uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. David was born in Welland and moved to Grimsby for work in the 1950s. He resided in Grimsby with his wife Helen-Anne for most of his years other than for a short while in retirement in Stoney Creek. He returned to Grimsby with his wife in his later years and has spent the past few years with her at Maplecrest Retirement Home on Main Street in Grimsby. He was a fixture on Main Street for many years working in the shoe store business and then owning his own successful shoe store, Dave Frost Shoes, until the 1980s. His shoe store was seen as many as the centre of the Grimsby "universe" where anyone and everyone felt warm and welcomed in what was not only a very special shoe store but a social drop-in centre where people would come for laughter, good advice or various forms of support which Dave was happy to provide. After selling his shoe store he went back to school and gained certifications in Gerontology and opened the Niagara Region Grimsby Senior Citizens Daycare program where he loved his job and spent his final working years improving the lives of seniors in Grimsby and the surrounding Niagara Region. He was heavily involved in the community as a member of the Grimsby Chamber of Commerce, a staunch supporter of the Recreation and Parks Department, a member of the Lions Club where he along with other Lions Club members helped to build the Grimsby Community Pool which still operates today. Dave was also a volunteer firefighter, and a sponsor of numerous sporting teams throughout the years. In addition to this, Dave and nine other friends in Grimsby were responsible for resurrecting the Grimsby Peach Kings which has continued on through the years. During his entire life, Dave was very actively involved in local politics and ran or helped to run many successful campaigns for the Federal and Provincial Progressive Conservative parties. His optimistic outlook, sense of humour, sunny disposition, historical recollection of Grimsby and love for the town, will be missed by many. Dave was always so very actively involved in Grimsby there is really too much to mention here - he will be sadly missed by so many for his incredible history of contributions both large and small. Dave was a people person and truly loved people, especially over a cup of Tim Horton's coffee. Visitation at STONEHOUSE-WHITCOMB FUNERAL HOME, 11 Mountain Street, GRIMSBY (905-945-2755) on Sunday, February 26, 2017, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m., where the Funeral Service will take place on Monday, February 27, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. Cremation to follow. If desired, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer Society would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
