Obituary for Lynn Marie Ablard

Lynn Marie Ablard
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lynn Marie Ablard (nee Hicks) on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Oakville Trafalgar Hospital at the age of 67 with her family by her side.

Lynn was predeceased by her parents T. Samuel and K. Patricia Hicks. Lynn is survived by her loving husband Brian, son Clark, daughter Kendra, siblings, Kathleen, Gary (Linda), Cheryl (Bill) and numerous nieces, nephews and “Grauntie” to Sebastian, Brooke, Aiden and Jamie plus innumerable friends and family.

Lynn was born November 14, 1949 in Hamilton to Sam and Pat Hicks and was the eldest of four children. Lynn attended teacher’s college and McMaster University pursuing her life long passion for teaching. Lynn had been teaching for six years before she met her husband Brian on a blind date in 1974. They were married for 41 wonderful years and had two beautiful children. Lynn worked for the Halton School Board as both a Teacher and Teacher Librarian for over 35 years.

Another passion of Lynn’s was Guiding. Lynn has been a member of the Girl Guides of Canada for over 40 years and was a prominent member of the Trefoil Guild. Lynn, or Sunny as her camp friends know her, created programs like Mom and Me, the Nature Centre at Doe Lake & Camp Kiawa and the award-winning Golfing Girls. Even after Lynn’s cancer diagnosis she continued to persevere through the pain and contributed where she could with Guiding. Guiding was a large part of Lynn’s life, and right before her passing she was honoured with the National Fortitude Award.

Lynn loved gardening, reading, spending time with family and enjoyed many summers at Sauble Beach. In more recent years, Lynn loved creating her business, Eco Dollie Designs, to share her gift of sewing, love of American Girl dolls and imaginative play.

A celebration of life will take place on Friday February 10, 2017 at 1:00pm at the First Unitarian Church of Hamilton with Reverend Victoria Ingram officiating, followed by a reception with light refreshments. (uuhamilton.ca)

In lieu of flowers, if friends or family so desire, donations can be made in Lynn’s Memory to Girl Guides of Canada (www.girlguides.ca).

The family would like thank the numerous doctors, nurses, and her home care team for their exceptional care.

A final goodbye:
“I’ll walk in the rain by your side, I’ll cling to the warmth of your hand, I’ll share with you all the happiness I’ve found, I’ll love you more than anybody can.”

Lynn, may you rest in peace. I’ll love you forever. ~ Love Always, Brian.
