Obituary for Steffie Nancie Kriskovich Lowartz

Steffie Nancie Kriskovich Lowartz
LOWARTZ, Steffie Nancie Kriskovich
Passed away at The Village of Tansley Woods, Burlington on Friday, January 6, 2017 at the age of 73. Nancie is the loved mother of Serena Adam (Jamie), cherished grandmother of Steffie and Sebastian and dear sister of Dorothy Milligan. She is predeceased by her loved and admired older sister Angela Fournier.
Nancie was born on Valentine’s Day, 1943 in Sudbury, Ontario to her beloved parents Danial and Steffie Kriskovich. She lived in Sudbury and then Hamilton with her family, where her parents ran a number of popular family restaurants (Nancy’s Café, Restaurant 78, The Peacock, Dan K.).
Nancie started her career as a teacher at St. Dominic in Oakville. Throughout her career, she touched the lives of thousands of students first as a teacher, then as a Vice-Principal and Principal in the Halton Catholic District School Board. Nancie was a dedicated and hardworking, single mother who strove every day to provide the best for her daughter. She worked during the day and continued her education at night achieving a Bachelor of Arts from McMaster University and a Master of Education from Brock University.
Throughout her life and work, Nancie demonstrated her sharp intellect and drive to succeed. She was a strongly independent woman who had a great personal style, much appreciated skill as a cook and a love of the arts and literature. Nancie loved the opera, symphony and drama. She spent many weekends with Serena at Roy Thomson Hall, the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, and The Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. Quiet times were spent listening to CBC Radio and following an eclectic interest in books.
Most of all, we will always remember the delight and contentment that she felt upon the birth of her grandchildren and the care and attention that she gave them. Nancie loved Christmas and she held on for one last Christmas with her family before passing away peacefully while she slept.
Special thanks and love to Rhonda and Dan Milligan and the wonderful caregivers Nirmal and Christiane and those of iCare including Brittany and Lori and, of course, the staff of Tansley Woods for the love and care they gave Nancie in the last year and a half of her life.
Private Cremation has taken place. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 485 Brant Street, (one block north of City Hall), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 7-9 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 1 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. For those who wish, donations in memory of Nancie to The Alzheimer Society of Canada would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
