Obituary for Mary Annie Modny (Harasymowicz)

With broken hearts we announce the passing of our mother, Mary after a lengthy illness. Surrounded by her loving family, she went to be with her departed husband Peter. Mary, grew up on Whitefield Avenue in Hamilton, where she met the love of her life and spent 63 married years together. Survived by her children Peter (Wendy), Patricia (Jerri) and David (Karen) as well as grandchildren Eric (Morgan), Blake (Brittany), Craig, Laura (Adam) and great grandson Joseph. Predeceased by her husband Peter (2016), son Joseph (1991), brother Joseph and sisters Jean and Helen. Mom passed many traditions on to us that we will uphold and treasure. She was an active member of the UCWL of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church where she held many positions over the years. Special thanks to Father Zenon for his prayers and kind words, they were very comforting to mom. Many thanks to the nursing staff of Joseph Brant Hospital, Ward 3 East, ICU and the Palliative Care Unit and to doctors Lysecki and Duncan for their care and compassion. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Wednesday from 3-5 and 7-9p.m. Panachyda at 8p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church, 419 Pearl Street, Burlington on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 10a.m. Interment St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Cemetery, Oakville. If desired, donations in memory of Mary to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Holy Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church Icon Fund or a charity of choice would be sincerely appreciated by the family.
