Every year, we host a “Care for the Caregivers” Luncheon for caregivers in our community...and 2016 marks our 27th year in doing so.
We are pleased to be welcoming Heidi Cowie (RSW, Counsellor, Hypnotherapist, Speaker & Author) as our guest speaker this year. Heidi will be addressing the power of perception, resilience, and courage and will provide 27 practical tips to help you thrive as a caregiver.
We began this event in order to recognize, encourage and express appreciation for the outstanding work of community caregivers with the dying, their families and the bereaved.
So often, these caregivers are less visible than other professionals, and yet they play such an integral role in caring for those in need. The Caregivers Luncheon provides an opportunity for us to express our appreciation to these hard-working individuals, and offer them an experience that will hopefully uplift, motivate and inspire them to continue the great work they do for all of us in our community.
In addition to providing lunch and a special presentation, we also award several bursaries to non-profit organizations in the community, to be directed toward Caregiver professional development or Caregiver support initiatives.
Our friends at Joseph Brant Hospital also join us in awarding two hospital bursaries with similar intentions to be directed to caregiver development within their organization.
Past recipients of the Smith’s bursaries include The Carpenter Hospice (Music Therapy Program), Acclaim Health (Community Health Care – Nursing Department), Bereaved Families of Ontario (Children’s Program for Grieving Children and also for their Volunteer Program), Victims’ Services (for both Ontario Provincial Police and Halton Regional Police programs) among many others.
This is one small way we can say “thank you” to all the caregivers and volunteers who do so much great work in our community.
