Smith's Funeral Homes continues to support numerous professional and community organizations. Don Smith has been active in a host of city civic, service, health and athletic organizations, and served as Chairman of the Board of Funeral Services for the Province of Ontario, and is a founding member of the Burlington Bereavement Resource Council.

Smith's has been recognized for service and excellence with the following awards:

  • Mayor's Community Service Award in 2014
  • First Canadian Funeral Home to be Certified by the Green Burial Council in 2009
  • Chamber of Commerce Business Achievement Award - Service in 2000
  • Chamber of Commerce “Company of the Year Award” in 2000
  • Mayor's Community Service Award in 1997
  • First Canadian Funeral Home to receive the Pursuit of Excellence Award from the United States National Funeral Directors Association in 1989

Smith's Funeral Homes is also the first Canadian business of its kind to be certified by the Green Burial Council—an independent, non-profit international organization that works to ensure funeral and cemetery practices are eco-friendly and meaningful. We only use environmentally friendly suppliers and operate in a way that minimizes our carbon footprint.

We are dedicated to caring for bereaved families with compassion, understanding and respect. Ensuring that the final goodbye has a minimal carbon footprint is important to many of the families we serve.
