On Sunday, December 9, 2012, Smith's Funeral Homes held its 11th Annual Christmas Memorial Service, alongside our incredible community partners: The Carpenter Hospice, Acclaim Health; Bereaved Families of Ontario, Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital and many Burlington churches. This special ecumenical Memorial Service was held at St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church, with approximately 800 people in attendance between the afternoon and evening ceremonies.
During the service, family members were invited to light a candle in memory of their loved one, to whom the Service is dedicated. Each person's name was printed in the service program and read aloud during the candle-lighting.
Special thanks to the officiating clergy who provided a truly comforting and meaningful experience:
Reverend Moe Anderson - Chaplain, Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital
Reverend Deacon Victor Kubrak - St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church
Reverend Father Aleksander Mazur - St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church
Reverend Canon Stuart Pike - St. Luke's Anglican Church
Reverend Allison Playfair - St. Stephen United Church
Sincere thanks also to the choirs of St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church and Appleby United Church, and to Adrienne Pringle, Music Therapist at The Carpenter Hospice for their involvement and musical gifts.
As part of Smith's Community Care Program, those in attendance were invited to bring a gift of non-perishable food or an unwrapped toy to the Memorial Service if they wished. These items were then donated in memory of their loved ones to Burlington's Partnership West Food Bank and the Salvation Army.
It is our hope that each and every person will find peace, hope, joy and love throughout the coming year.
